QTLC Working Groups

The Queensland Transport and Logistics Council (QTLC) recently facilitated industry consultation to provide a consistent approach to actions generated from the Transport and Main Roads’ draft Integrated Freight Strategy for Queensland IFSQ.
The QTLC has formed Working Groups to address the key issues in these areas and to drive positive change across the freight and logistics industry. The QTLC has established the following working groups:

Access and Regulation (Chair – Mark Johnston) will aim to facilitate improved access to the freight network for High Productivity Vehicles and PBS approved vehicles, including ‘last mile’ issues, to increase efficiencies by facilitating regulatory consistencies and harmonization across jurisdictions.  Members: Andrew Barger (QRC), Liz Schmidt (LTAQ), Brent Findlay (Agforce), Inga Condric (BCC), Rebecca Michael (LGAQ), David Waddel / Gustavo Biscardi (JBS Swift), David Simon (ATA) & (Simon National Carriers) Ken Russell (Heavy Haulage and Specialist Freight Industry), John King (Toll Group), Mark Mitchell, Barry Ferguson, Bruce Ollason, Les Bruzsa, and Warwick Williams (Relevant areas of TMR)

Infrastructure and Planning (Chair - Keith Hampson) will examine the freight impacts of current and proposed infrastructure and ensure that future infrastructure is integrated with land use planning. Members: Tom Baskerville, (Parsons Brinckerhoff), Dr Rebecca Michael (LGAQ), Brian Bock (Bock Advisory Pty Ltd), Greg Richards (Minter Ellison), Adrian Dwyer (Infrastructure Partnerships Australia), John Cooper (IPS Logistics Group), Bill Tranberg (Port of Brisbane), Mark Chapman (Super A-Mart), Andrew Cooper (Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu), Michelle Hendy, Jason Humphries, Ross Mensforth, Matt Schlotterbach (Relevant areas of TMR)

Intermodal (Chair – Andrew Rankin) will focus on intermodal issues, especially to facilitate a greater use of intermodal solutions. International freight, especially containerised freight, would become part of its purview. Members: are currently being finalised.

The Access and Regulation and Infrastructure and Planning Working Groups have each held their first meeting.   The Working Group’s membership consists of representatives from a cross section of industry as well as relevant state and local government delegates.  Meeting discussions were enthusiastic and illustrated the challenges that facets of the freight industry are currently confronted with.

The key issues that were generated from the meeting will guide forthcoming working group activities and outcomes.   It is anticipated that the Working Groups will be a vital catalyst for QTLC to address necessary changes required to facilitate a more efficient freight network in Queensland.
