Positive Partnership delivers Integrated Freight Strategy for Queensland
Queensland’s rapid growth has resulted in an increase in the demand for freight movement across the state. To address the issue the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has developed a new draft Integrated Freight Strategy for Queensland with the support of the Queensland Transport and Logistics Council. The draft Strategy is a culmination of intensive research and targeted stakeholder consultation and is intended to provide direction for integrated freight solutions for Queensland.
The draft Strategy has recently been released on TMR’s website
http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Business-and-industry/Transport-sectors/Freight/Integrated-Freight-Strategy-for-Queensland.aspx
for broader industry and community feedback until late January2011.
The Queensland Transport and Logistics Council are continuing to work closely with TMR in relation to the Strategy. Mr Neil Findlay, Chairman of the Queensland Transport and Logistics Council, said that the collaborative working relationship between the Council and TMR, has been rewarding and believes that the Strategy will result in positive outcomes for the future of freight in Queensland.
‘TMR’s willingness to work with the Council and other stakeholders early in the strategy development process proved to be invaluable in capturing real freight issues and ensuring the Strategy’s relevance to freight transport and logistics industries across the state’.
An extensive statewide program of industry consultation was undertaken by the Council to inform the development of the Strategy, providing industry with an additional opportunity to have constructive input to current and future freight needs.
The Council’s role has been pivotal in formulating the strategy’s key principles of delivering freight outcomes that support safety, community amenity and connectivity to the broader transport network.
To drive and implement the Strategy the Council have formed three working groups that will focus on issues such as Infrastructure, Intermodal Freight, Access and Regulation. Membership for these groups is currently being sought.
The Council’s role as conduit for industry and government on the Queensland freight task has been instrumental in the development of the Freight Strategy.
